My Story

I have always been passionate about helping people. From early on, I knew that a career in counseling would allow me to affect the people around me positively. I am a proud graduate of Cameron University with an MS degree and, for the past 16 years, I have been working in the mental health field, where I am able to make a difference in the lives of people who are struggling. I am currently trained in:

  • Basic Life Skills
  • Emergency Mental Health Aid
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Trauma-Focused Therapy

Overcoming Trauma & Adversity

As a therapist and counselor, I believe that being able to empathize and relate to people goes a long way towards their personal healing. Throughout my life, I've faced many hardships that I am now comfortable sharing with my patients to build trust and rapport. I share my stories to provide hope and to let people know that they aren't alone; there are others who have experienced similar situations. As a child, I experienced many difficult circumstances: my mother struggled with alcohol addiction, other people in my life had fallen victim to drug abuse, and I was the survivor of molestation and rape. These dark times in my life motivated me to support others in any way I can. I've always wanted to understand how to help people facing these all-too-common societal and personal issues, including sexual abuse, drug abuse, and alcohol abuse.

When my son was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, this was the final push I needed to start actively trying to help people. I decided to attend college to learn how to help my son and others facing various disorders and difficulties.

Although I'm well along my personal path of healing, these challenging times serve as a reminder that there are others out there facing similar issues every day. It is my goal to be there for those people with an open ear and an open heart.
